Spanish for Real Life: Year One
First year of high school Spanish
This original curriculum by David Durham, veteran multilingual teacher and cultural consultant, is designed to fit into a typical 32-week American school year. Home school students can be confident in taking it for high school credit, but the course is open for any and all who are interested in diving in to a curriculum that will equip them with an important life skill.
Each weekly lesson consists of a video lecture where David lays out the new material for the week, a vocabulary section using the Quizlet app, practice exercises including occasional reading and listening comprehension exercises, and a cultural component that introduces the student to one or more aspects of the many cultures where this important language is spoken. Each exercise is carefully designed to cover the material of the week as well as keep past content fresh in the student's mind, while avoiding too much repetitious busy work.
The price of this course is for the curriculum itself only, which can be used for self-study; however, Mr. Durham occasionally puts together live weekly Zoom classes (with a minimum of five students). Click here if interested.

Your Instructor
David Durham is a student of the world. Born in the United States, he has also lived seventeen years of his life outside the US, and views the world through an international lens. He has been a language language learner all his life, is conversant in six foreign languages and currently working on his seventh. In addition to being a language freak, David is the creator and host of the World to the Wise podcast, where his guests tell compelling stories about crossing cultural bridges of various kinds. David and his wife Rebecca are the proud parents of three sons, three daughters-in-law, and six grandchildren, and live in Nashville, Tennessee.
